WHAT IS RHINOPLASTY OR NOSEJOB?
Rhinoplasty or a “nose job” is one of the most popular facial plastic surgery procedures that reshapes and reconstructs the nose to achieve beautifully and aesthetically proportions on your face.
This is one of the most popular facial plastic surgery procedures. Many people are unhappy with the nose they were born with, while others have had the shape of the nose distorted from an injury. Disorders of nasal breathing often also complicate the situation.
With Rhinoplasty we modify and improve the shape, dimensions and generally the external shape of the nose, enhancing one’s physical appearance and achieve an aesthetically pleasing result. A large hump, a thick or ‘fallen’ tip, a wide or crooked nose can all be corrected in the hands of a properly trained and experienced Rhinosurgeon. Our surgeons can make your nose smaller, more prominent, slimmer, or wider, or simply smooth away unwanted lumps or bumps.
WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF RHINOPLASTY?
A range of techniques are used to fully address the desired change in appearance as well as to improve nasal breathing. The most common goals that a successful rhinoplasty achieves include:
- Improvement of the size and shape of the nose
- Removal of a hump
- Refinement of the nasal tip.
- Improvement of the deviations.
The most significant outcome is that rhinoplasty, or nose job, can help improve the way we feel about our looks, and increase self-confidence and overall levels of happiness.
As it is one of the most technically difficult procedures in cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty requires a strong sense of aesthetics coupled with a profound understanding of anatomy.
In Harley Elite Group, our aim is to provide you with an attractive, natural-looking nose that functions properly.
WHAT IS SEPTO-RHINOPLASTY?
A septo-rhinoplasty is commonly done to improve the way you breathe through your nose. This is often done for patients who suffer from a deviated septum. The septum is the cartilage and bone inside your nose that divides the nostrils.
In these cases, we perform simultaneous surgical straightening of a crooked nasal septum, we shrink the passages and remove nasal polyps that block normal breathing. Therefore, with this procedure your breathing will be improved, the annoying snoring and sleep apnea attacks will reduce or disappear and the same will happen to the frequent seizures of sinusitis.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF RHINOPLASTY?
There are two types of modern Rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty, a small, invisible incision is made across the columella of the nose, between the nostrils, to gives us the required access. The incision heals rapidly and leaves an almost invisible scar. It is also in the shadow line of the nose – so it is not visible on views from the front or the side. On the other hand, the closed method of rhinoplasty involves incisions only in the inside of the nose.
The open rhinoplasty is usually the preferred procedure as it allows much better access to expose and control all the small cartilages and the bones involved in the anatomy of the nose. Therefore, subtle or more drastic changes can be achieved. In some other cases a ‘closed’ procedure is chosen as it is a reliable method that can give excellent aesthetic and functional results, while no external scar is created. The best options will be discussed with you at the time of consultation with our expert surgeons.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING RHINOPLASTY?
- The operation is usually carried out under general anesthesia. An anesthetist is constantly in attendance throughout the procedure to control and maintain the level of sedation. The technique used will depend on the level of improvement/correction required. The duration is 1-3 hours and it depends on the aesthetic and functional issues that need to be fixed.
AM I SUITABLE FOR RHINOPLASTY?
Suitable for rhinoplasty are men or women who are bothered by the appearance of their nose, snore loudly, experience sleep apnoea or have breathing difficulties.
If you would like to correct damage or an injury that has occurred to your nose, the most effective and immediate corrective procedure is rhinoplasty. Necessary conditions also are the good mental health and the realistic expectations of the person concerned.
IS THERE A RIGHT AGE FOR RHINOPLASTY?
A necessary condition for someone to undergo a rhinoplasty surgery is to have fully developed facial features, including his nose. In women, this development is completed in the age of 16-17 years while in men at the age of 18-19 years. As for older people, there is no age limit and any person who feels the need to improve the appearance and function of their nose can choose rhinoplasty surgery
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER RHINOPLASTY?
After rhinoplasty procedure, you will feel minimal or no pain at all. There may be some level of discomfort immediately following your procedure, but pain levels will be modest. You will be issued with anti-inflammatory agents and mild painkillers. Your face could be slightly bruised and swollen around your eyes. It could be visible for up to 7-10 days. After 10 days, you will not feel that you had a plastic surgery, although the fine results will be visible.
We suggest the following for immediate recovery:
- You should not blow your nose for a number of days after the procedure.
- You will be advised to do regular nasal douches.
- Avoid any exercise and activity for up to 3 weeks.
- Moderate walking as soon as possible after the procedure is advisable.
- Drink as much cold fluids as possible.
- You need to visit the aesthetic clinic again after 7 days to remove your splint and stitches.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS?
Similar to any other surgical procedure that use anesthesia there are some risks involved with Rhinoplasty. These will be thoroughly discussed with you in advance so that you can make an informed decision about your operation. The best way to avoid risks with surgery is to follow the proper aftercare instructions given to you by your surgeon.
